Diana is a Colombian biologist with 15 years of experience in biodiversity conservation. She has a master’s degree in geographic information systems which complements her research on plant and bird ecology and her conservation action proposals with spatial patterns analysis of species distribution. Another component of her work is focused on supporting local communities and environmental and governmental authorities to generate knowledge for informed land management decision making. Diana has also trained young researchers, on both biological and geographical sciences. Since 2006 she is a researcher at the Colombian organization Asociación Calidris and in 2012 she started the coordination of activities related to the migratory shorebird initiative of the Pacific Coast in South America. This network has surveyed and estimated shorebird populations trends in 425 sites with the support of 50 organizations and more than 500 volunteers from 12 countries.
