Emilia supports the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in various aspects of planning, coordination, and implementation of the Coastal Solutions Fellows Program. She completed her BSc in General Biology from Florida State University with a concentration in ecology and conservation. She has a multidisciplinary background for conservation work in Florida and Latin America. Her conservation career has included coral restoration in Islas del Rosario, off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia, a geographic population study of the endemic Diamondback Terrapin in the Big Bend Area of Florida, program development for tropical islands and biodiversity for the School of Field Studies in Bocas del Toro, Panama, and natural resource management for properties in South Florida. Her Colombian background gives her a unique perspective to develop effective conservation strategies. In 2017 she received The Florida State University Office of Undergraduate Research Award and Florida State University IDEA Grant.
